The Facebook Mistake You Don’t Know You’re Making: Guest Post for Paul Angone

Nine full workweeks.

During a nerdy time tracking experiment that I did last year, I found that I spent an average of 350 hours, or nine full workweeks per year, browsing Facebook.

Barf.

Even worse, I spent only about 100 hours (less than a third of my Facebook time) engaging in…

Thus begins my guest post for Paul Angone at All Groan Up. To read the rest of my post, go ahead and check out the link below:

Paul is awesome for (at least) two reasons. Firstly, he is hilarious. I mean, check out  his criteria for being a “groan up:”

You Might Be A Groan Up If:

  • You’re 18-35 years of age
  • You can’t believe you’re married
  • You can’t believe you’re NOT married
  • You still giggle when someone says balls (maybe just a groan up guy thing)

Hehe… balls.

Secondly, he has a super cool book coming out. Paul’s debut book Are You My Life?: Searching for Self, Faith, and a Freaking Job! hits bookstores early Spring 2012— but since you’re one of the cool kids, you can grab a free chapter in advance. Wheeeeee! Just click here to download your free chapter (I totally recommend it, especially if you’re a recent college graduate who’s all like, “WTF do I do nowww!!!??!!”).

Anyhow, here’s the link again to my guest post on All Groan Up:

Thanks Therese! I’m blushing. An honor to have you officially become a “Groan Up” today with this article.

Facebook will never look the same to me again. And that’s a good thing!

Thank you Paul– it was a pleasure :)

I definitely just deleted my facebook app on my phone. And signed out of my account instead of having that option to be “permenently signed in.” I liked the comment about having a purpose for logging on facebook. It’s a great idea. And I probably spend just as much as you on fb Therese, it’s definitely not good. I’ve deleted it for months before, but its always to easy to rationalize to yourself why your’e able to have one again. I think there needs to be more face to face time between people. And I’m also going to take your advice in not having my phone out when I’m doing something…..especially class >_< haha Great post, per usual!

Thanks Katie… I do agree that there needs to be more face to face time between people. At the same time, the internet and social media can also be valuable tools. For me, the key is just how to keep it under control– and how to make sure that I get “the important stuff” done no matter what, because that’s the stuff that will make my life worthwhile in the end :)
