Who The Heck Are You? (Eckhart Tolle’s Story of The Room)

What can a cute little man teach you about who you are?

A whole heck of a lot, as it turns out.

This past week I was one LUCKY DUCK who got to hear the epitome of cute little men, none other than Mr. Eckhart Tolle himself, speak at the Wisdom 2.0 Conference in Silicon Valley.

Only Eckhart could take an analogy about something totally lame-sounding like furniture and rooms and make it entertaining and awesome and beyond soul-touching.

So much so, in fact, that I was inspired to try out my skills of an artist (HA!) and to create a little story-book aptly entitled “The Story of The Room.”

Check it out below — just click on the image (or use the little arrow in the right-hand corner) to turn the pages of the book.

(Can you spot the toilet?)

So who are you?

It’s totally weird-sounding, but perhaps you are that space in between the furniture – that space that’s already here right now — that space that always has been and always will be. Perhaps you are that space which is nameless, formless, endless.

& Everyone and everything else?

Perhaps they are that space, too.

Till next week, I’ll leave you to ponder.

PEACE OUT.

Coming next week: Me on VIDEO (!??!), updates on my fast approaching cross-country tour, and the announcement of the long-awaited “Free Guide to Saving Your Freaking Soul”! (<– See, I haven’t forgotten; I just suck at having time lately  ;-)

Also please note: Eckhart Tolle has no clue who I am. My intent in posting this was not to suggest that Eckhart has any association with or endorsement of The Unlost (he does not), but simply to share his wisdom with the world :-) I am not using, nor do I intend to use, “The Story of The Room” for any commercial purposes.

!!!! Love love LOVE this! This is exactly how I have been feeling as my cluttered “room” is beginning to “crack!” It’s incredibly alarming until you begin to soften around the urge to fight and let go into the experience (much easier said than done- right?).

With the help of your amazing insight, Therese, and other inspirational influences I have discovered, I am just realizing now how important it is to acknowledge the wonderful space that is inside of each of us and ties us all together as humans. When it comes down to it, we are all cut from the same cloth, all connected and more alike than we think. This is an amazing message to break down these barriers we have created for ourselves and bask in the beautiful space we all have. Thank you so much for sharing!

Yes, yes yes! But thank Eckhart, not me :)

True- but you are the one getting this awesomeness out there! Plus you’re pretty inspirational yourself, Miss Therese!

T – Reading “The Power Of Now” TOTALLY changed my life. It competely explained why my mind is the way that it is and pointed out the path to make real, lasting change (no easy feat in the 2nd half of my life). This book has been so powerful for me that I have listened to it over and over again. BTW, I do recommend getting it on CD: his ideas in his words spoken by the man.

      Concurred, James. Love his stuff!

Epitome of cute little men is an understatement :)
    Your storybook is lovely.
Eckhart recently spoke to the employees at Google and used the room analogy.
His google talk is posted on youtube:

Thanks for this! Yes, omg, he is the cutest old man evvveerrrr!!! I am not one of those girls who gets an ancient professor who sucks and says “But he’s soooo cute”. I’ve never referred to an old man as “cute” before. Until Eckhart…

Thanks Cathy… and of course it’s an understatement! ;)

Is that a scrapbook + drawing collage? Your artistic skills are pretty awesome, Therese. Seriously. And I don’t think that just because I’m stuck in stick-figure land.

And I read “The Power of Now” a while ago, during the time when my Crohn’s was pretty intense. It helped out a lot. Just the spiritual presence of Eckhart Tolle is enough to calm down the most frantic of minds.

Yep, magazine clippings + my markers :). I may have some talent at finding good magazine pieces and arranging them, but my drawings are in stick-figure land as well, haha.

Therese – good thing I read this before my pre-planned trip to Ikea. I thought I just needed new furniture. I may need a whole lot more than that. Or maybe nothing at all! Maybe just need to embrace the room?

      Hahahahahaha!

      Deep thoughts…

we are so consumed with the idea that we must get out and go DO something and BE somebody and HAVE stuff and the whole deal, forgetting we’re just a drop of water in the ocean. we’re important, yet we’re not. it’s all gonna be okay. and if it’s not, that’s okay too. too much time spent trying to figure it all out, which misses the whole point.
